18 Coffees Digital Debate: The Metaverse
Can you argue like a lawyer? Were you the high school speech and debate regional champ? Let your innermost nerd out to play at our first 18 Coffees Digital Debate on Monday, September 12! The topic in question: the metaverse.
Here’s how it works
Virtual debate participants will be split into three groups:
The affirmative team arguing for the adoption of the metaverse.
The negative team arguing against the adoption of the metaverse
Debate judges charged with casting the ultimate vote to crown our victors — if you just want to tune in, this one's for you!
Each debating side will have one to two featured debaters and a support team. (You can include your preference in the RSVP form at the bottom.) All assignments will be determined at the start of the event — teams will then be split into breakout rooms and have 15 minutes to collaborate and prepare all supporting points.
While all team members will play a vital role in developing arguments, featured debaters are charged with presenting their team’s viewpoint clearly and concisely through:
A 3 minute argument
A 5 minute rebuttal
A 2 minute closing argument
We’ll end with a brief Q&A period where our judges can ask questions before casting their final votes.
Note: This is all meant to be in good fun — we’ll keep things playful and respectful as usual, and no prep work is required ahead of time. RSVP below to request your positions!
