Scaling Fundraising Efforts with How to Report a Hate Crime

Project Overview: 18 Coffees helped Community Partner Esther Lim’s How to Report a Hate Crime — a grassroots organization producing web content and physical booklets that contain resources for reporting hate crimes in multiple languages — prepare to scale fundraising efforts ahead of 2023. How to Report a Hate Crime has garnered national recognition and distributed over 100,000 booklets, but the organization was in need of additional funds to scale operations and meet the growing demand.

Our collaboration consisted of two phases:

  • Phase One: Sponsorship Information Deck

    • Over the course of 4 weeks, 18 Coffees Community Partners collaborated on a turnkey sponsorship deck containing brief explainers, organization milestones, top reasons to donate, printing costs, and clear steps for organizations to sponsor to Hate Crime Book.

  • Phase Two: Brainstorm

    • A virtual brainstorming session helping founder Esther Young Lim generate ideas for fundraising, organizational development, and social strategy.

Team Lead: Jessica Ivetich

Team Members: Ellen Wernecke, Kelly Wrather, Michael Miro, Robin Chung, and Robin Mazur.

Applicable Skill Sets: Strategy, non-profit management, messaging development, fundraising, political organizing, storytelling.

18 Coffees is comprised of quality people, who I believe in doing good work to build towards a more progressive society. I am so grateful that they wanted to help Hate Crime Book so that our outreach to new partners can be more impactful and sustainable.

The team put so much time and care into getting to know me as a person first, which I appreciated because few companies do that and try to get started on the project right off the bat without understanding the intent that leads to an outcome that does not represent the brand. I was so touched (& nearly cried) when seeing the final project because it was more than I expected, and they really understood the assignment. The 18 Coffees’ team are a team of individuals who care. And these caring people have talent. You cannot find this combo anywhere else. 18 Coffees is the way to go. Always.
